Yan-Ho Cheng

A native from Hong Kong, Yan-Ho Cheng studied the cello under the tutelage of Ming-Yuen Cheung, Joliana Lai, Hiu-Lo Tung and later Prof. Ray Wang. He graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and the Jacobs School of Music of Indiana University with a Master degree in Cello Performance under the guidance of Peter Stumpf. Yan Ho also worked as the assistant of Susan Moses at Indiana University String Academy and furthered his studies in quartet performance with Luc-Marie Aguera, Marc Danel, Ivan Chan and the Pacifica Quartet.

Yan Ho has performed extensively throughout his career as the founding cellist of Cong Quartet, which has taken him around the world to perform in countries such as Australia, China, England, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, South Korea, Switzerland, and the United States. He collaborated with distinguished musicians such as Yuri Bashmet, Andrej Bielow, Adrien La Marca, Enrico Pace, Timo-Veikko Valve and members of the Borommeo Quartet and Quatuor Danel.

Yan Ho plays a cello recently made by Yair Hod Fainas in Paris, one of the four instruments commissioned specifically for his quartet, and a bow made by Hong Kong bow maker Jimmy Cheung.
