Based in Melbourne, Australia, the Řeka Quartet formed in early 2024 for the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music’s String Ensemble’s quartet program. The group brings together four passionate and talented musicians, with violinists Ian Chiao and Star Yi, violist Lachie McKie, and cellist Alex Liu.. United by their dedication to chamber music, this quartet has quickly established itself as a dynamic and engaging ensemble.

Under the mentorship of the Australian String Quartet, members of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, and the top tutors at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, the Řeka Quartet is dedicated to realizing the full potential of their music. They strive to enhance their individual and collective abilities to communicate and collaborate as chamber musicians.

All members of the Řeka Quartet serve as principal players in the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music's String Ensemble and Symphonic Orchestra, relishing their leadership roles. Since their inaugural performance in the Conservatorium’s Hanson Dyer Hall earlier this year, the quartet has been working diligently, developing a keen interest in the music of Romantic giants. They aim to discover a unique blend of character and color in their performances.
