Star Yi

Violinist Star Yi is in her second year of a Bachelor of Music in Performance degree at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. She is currently studying with Dr. Curt Thompson. Previous teachers have included Isin Cakmakcioglu, Lisa Grosman and Alexandra Hiew. She has participated in numerous chamber workshops and violin masterclasses with Professor Simon James, Richard Tognetti, Stefanie Ferrands, Dale Baltrop, and Zoe Black, and was recently in the Mimir Chamber Music Festival Melbourne in 2022.

Star studied overseas for a few years as a young soloist, winning the Grand Prize of Korea’s 35th National Student Music Scholarship Competition, and receiving Special Prize for the 170th International Youth Entertainment Festival in 2015. Upon her return to Melbourne, she joined the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School in 2017, receiving both the Junior and Senior Music Most Improved Award and was a finalist for the Chamber Competition in 2019.

Developing a keen interest in ensemble playing, Star has performed with the Korean Youth Orchestra, University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne String Ensemble, and the Australian Youth Orchestra National Music Camp on several occasions. Star has also been featured in programs premiering works by Australian composers, such as William Barton and Stefan Cassomenos at the Melbourne Recital Centre.
