Auburn Quartet

Ian Chiao, violin
Star Yi, violin
Hillary Cheng, viola
Alice Hurwood, cello
Based in Melbourne, Australia, the Auburn Quartet was formed in early 2023 for the MCM String Ensemble’s quartet program. The group consists of violinists Ian Chiao and Star Yi, violist Hillary Cheng, and cellist Alice Hurwood, all of whom are currently studying at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music (MCM). Under the guidance of MCM’s top tutors, the Auburn Quartet aims to reach new heights with its chamber music journey and looks forward to participating in more performances together, sharing great music with the Mimir audience.
Working steadily since their inaugural performance in the Conservatorium’s Hanson Dyer Hall earlier this year, the Auburn Quartet has developed an interest in the music of the Neo-Romantic and Twentieth Century by performing Prokofiev and Rachmaninov Quartets. All avid and passionate musicians, the members of the Auburn Quartet hope to continue exploring wider ranges of repertoire together and sharing the joys of chamber music making.
