Sara Barbagallo

Sara is an enthusiastic and passionate musician from Melbourne. Her journey began at age 3 when she commenced violin lessons with the Suzuki method. Her love for music was nurtured during high school where she was given numerous opportunities to perform in many capacities. These included as a soloist with orchestra, concertmaster of the symphony and string orchestras, and school Music Captain. During this time, Sara completed AMEB music exams up to AMusA on both violin and viola.

Sara is currently in her third year of the Bachelor of Music (BMus) at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. With guidance from mentors including Lisa Grosman, Dr Elizabeth Sellars and Dr Curt Thompson, Sara has been a recipient of many awards. The most recent being The Elinor Gertrude Harris Bequest, The AG McMillen Arts Trust (Music), The Corinna D’Hage Mayer String Scholarship and The Brunner Music scholarship. In 2021 Sara lead the University’s Philharmonic Orchestra where she was able to further develop her skills. She is currently Associate Concertmaster of the University’s main Symphony Orchestra. Outside of her studies, Sara enjoys participating in Australian Youth Orchestra programs where she has had the opportunity to work with many professional musicians such as Kirsten Williams, Sophie Rowell and Fabian Russell.

In the future, Sara hopes to continue developing her love of music as a solo, orchestral and chamber musician.
